Reusable Light Flow Period Pads
Match the pad to the day. Light days mostly call for a liner, so these reusable pads for light flow are mostly liners: for spotting, for the first and last days of your period, and as backup with a cup or disc. Each holds about 2 tampons’ or disposable pads’ worth. The 7-inch Liner is the wider shape, while the 8.7-inch Extended Liner is longer and has a dark side that hides stains. Wing snaps keep them in place. And when a light day turns heavier, the Maxi Pad holds about 3.

Liner or pad? Pick by the day
| Liner or pad | Size | Holds about | Absorbent side | Reach for it when |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Liner | 7 × 7 in | 2 tampons’ or disposable pads’ worth | Light | Spotting, the last day of your period, backup with a cup, leaks that reach the sides |
| Extended Liner | 6.3 × 8.7 in | 2 tampons’ or disposable pads’ worth | Dark (charcoal bamboo) | Light days when you want more length front to back and would rather not see stains |
| Maxi Pad | 7 × 10 in | 3 tampons’ or disposable pads’ worth | Light | The in-between day when a liner isn’t enough (it’s made for moderate to heavy flow) |
Most periods have one awkward day that’s too much for a liner and not really enough for a pad. Start with the Extended Liner on that day, because the extra length is often all it takes. Still filling it? Then it’s a Maxi day.
Light side or dark side?
Both the Liner and the Maxi Pad have a light absorbent side. You can see your flow on it, which makes it easy to tell when it’s time to change. The Extended Liner’s side is charcoal, and stains don’t show. A note on our Black and Mixed Colors liner sets: the color is on the outside only. The side that touches you is light, so you’ll see the blood on it.
How long can you wear one?
Change it once it feels damp, and keep to the general guide of 4 to 8 hours. Our guide to using reusable pads covers changing and carrying in more detail.
Try them for 60 days
If they’re not right for you, send them back within 60 days for your money. That’s true even after you’ve worn and washed them.
A light period now and then is usually nothing to worry about. Bleeding between periods, or a change that lasts three months or more, is worth a check with your doctor.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is a liner enough for a light period?
On most light days it is. Our liners each hold about 2 tampons’ or disposable pads’ worth. Soaking through one in a couple of hours means it’s time to move up to the Maxi Pad.
How long can I wear a reusable pad on a light day?
Until it feels damp, and within the usual 4 to 8 hours.
Will a small cloth liner stay in place?
Small pads have a reputation for creeping, which is why ours have wings. They wrap under your underwear and snap together, and snug underwear helps too.
What if my flow is too much for a liner but a pad feels like too much?
Try the Extended Liner. It holds the same amount as the Liner but runs 8.7 inches long, so it covers more. If that’s still not enough, step up to the Maxi Pad.
Can I wear them as backup with a cup, disc or tampon?
Yes. A liner catches the odd leak without the bulk of a full pad.
Are reusable pads worth it if my period is light?
A light period needs fewer pads, so your first set goes further. Each one lasts 5+ years. And you’ve got 60 days to send them back if they don’t suit you, used or not.
Is a very light period normal?
Often, yes. A period that’s changed and stayed that way for three months or more, or any bleeding between periods, is worth raising with a doctor. The NHS page on bleeding between periods explains when to get it checked.
Light or dark absorbent side: which should I choose?
Go light if you like to see your flow, dark if you’d rather not see stains. The Liner and the Maxi Pad are light, and the Extended Liner is charcoal.
How many do I need for light days?
That depends on how many light days you get and how often you change. Multiply the two, then add a couple to cover the days they’re in the wash.
